“I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend.”
― Freddie Mercury
So I have recently exchanged a message or two with
fred_fierce – who is a man with many secrets. Not secrets I shall be revealing here, however. Sorry to disappoint anyone who was hoping for a few juicy details.
There were two things that struck me the most about him. The first was that he happens to share a name with my long time idol, Freddie Mercury (yes, I bet that came as a complete surprise!), and the second was that I can kind of see some of Freddie's attitude in him. An example, in his own words: Oh honey. You can't even handle my bio right now. Take it easy. I can easily close my eyes and hear Freddie say that with his adorable dreamy voice... sorry, just having a bit of a moment there.
Love him or hate him, I think almost everyone has at least heard of Freddie Mercury. Born on 5th September 1946, he was the front man of the British rock band Queen. Musician, singer and song writer, he was known for his powerful stage presence, and strong vocals over a four-octave range.
Some of the following words describe him perfectly:
Powerful
Incredible
A legend
Sensational
A genius
Eccentric
Flamboyant
“Modern paintings are like women, you'll never enjoy them if you try to understand them.”
― Freddie Mercury
Unfortunately he died young, and I never got a chance to see him perform live. I would have loved to meet him, because while he was far from perfect, the glimpses from interviews and the statements from people who know him make me think that he would have been an awesome person to know. I was surprised to read that he was actually very shy, much like many of us. And in a way, I see that as inspiration: if he can get up there and perform in front of the millions of people that came to watch their concerts, I can write this intro!
One of my favourite quotes from him is the following. It seems we share a similar sense of humour:
“Oh, I was not made for heaven. No, I don't want to go to heaven. Hell is much better. Think of all the interesting people you're going to meet down there!”
― Freddie Mercury
In a way, no matter how famous we are or what we achieve, deep down we aren't all that different. That's true of myself,
fred_fierce, Freddie Mercury, and everyone reading this. We are not that different, we all have our dreams and the ability to try and make them come true.
In the words of my hero: The show must go on!

Date: 2013-05-09 11:19 pm (UTC)I was talking to one of the girls at LifeLine (yep, back there again!) and we were talking about the Kiss/Motley Crue concert I went to and she looked at me and said "Kiss are touring? Didn't the frontman die?? How do they handle that?"
Took me a few seconds to realise that she thought I was talking about Queen, and then I just began laughing...
Then there was the time Dad mistook me listening to Queen as me listening to Motley Crue (or perhaps it was the other way around... it was a rough time, I can't remember) but he has the excuse that we were driving home from Chemo treatment, so I can't get mad at him xD
And you forgot one of my favourite Freddie quotes...
"I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear!"
That and something from an interview from the 80s I think where he was going on about looking at images of himself from the seventies and going on about the nail polish and the long hair and blah blah blah and then saying "Would I do it all again? Absolutely! But I'd do it all differently!"
...every time I hear him say that, I'm like "stop lying, you fabulous twit... you would not. You'd do it all exactly the same. <3" xD
I .... have rambled for long enough.

Hope you'll both get a chance to know each other better as Idol goes on!
