Introducing [livejournal.com profile] fred_fierce

“I won't be a rock star. I will be a legend.”
― Freddie Mercury

So I have recently exchanged a message or two with [livejournal.com profile] fred_fierce – who is a man with many secrets. Not secrets I shall be revealing here, however. Sorry to disappoint anyone who was hoping for a few juicy details.

There were two things that struck me the most about him. The first was that he happens to share a name with my long time idol, Freddie Mercury (yes, I bet that came as a complete surprise!), and the second was that I can kind of see some of Freddie's attitude in him. An example, in his own words: Oh honey. You can't even handle my bio right now. Take it easy. I can easily close my eyes and hear Freddie say that with his adorable dreamy voice... sorry, just having a bit of a moment there.

Love him or hate him, I think almost everyone has at least heard of Freddie Mercury. Born on 5th September 1946, he was the front man of the British rock band Queen. Musician, singer and song writer, he was known for his powerful stage presence, and strong vocals over a four-octave range.

Some of the following words describe him perfectly:

Powerful
Incredible
A legend
Sensational
A genius
Eccentric
Flamboyant

“Modern paintings are like women, you'll never enjoy them if you try to understand them.”
― Freddie Mercury

Unfortunately he died young, and I never got a chance to see him perform live. I would have loved to meet him, because while he was far from perfect, the glimpses from interviews and the statements from people who know him make me think that he would have been an awesome person to know. I was surprised to read that he was actually very shy, much like many of us. And in a way, I see that as inspiration: if he can get up there and perform in front of the millions of people that came to watch their concerts, I can write this intro!

One of my favourite quotes from him is the following. It seems we share a similar sense of humour:

“Oh, I was not made for heaven. No, I don't want to go to heaven. Hell is much better. Think of all the interesting people you're going to meet down there!”
― Freddie Mercury

In a way, no matter how famous we are or what we achieve, deep down we aren't all that different. That's true of myself, [livejournal.com profile] fred_fierce, Freddie Mercury, and everyone reading this. We are not that different, we all have our dreams and the ability to try and make them come true.

In the words of my hero: The show must go on!

And people often wonder why I have the butterfly on my upper arm with rainbow wings and the iconic words 'my soul is painted like the wings of butterflies' ... with a few personal touches >.>

I was talking to one of the girls at LifeLine (yep, back there again!) and we were talking about the Kiss/Motley Crue concert I went to and she looked at me and said "Kiss are touring? Didn't the frontman die?? How do they handle that?"

Took me a few seconds to realise that she thought I was talking about Queen, and then I just began laughing...

Then there was the time Dad mistook me listening to Queen as me listening to Motley Crue (or perhaps it was the other way around... it was a rough time, I can't remember) but he has the excuse that we were driving home from Chemo treatment, so I can't get mad at him xD

And you forgot one of my favourite Freddie quotes...

"I'm just a musical prostitute, my dear!"

That and something from an interview from the 80s I think where he was going on about looking at images of himself from the seventies and going on about the nail polish and the long hair and blah blah blah and then saying "Would I do it all again? Absolutely! But I'd do it all differently!"

...every time I hear him say that, I'm like "stop lying, you fabulous twit... you would not. You'd do it all exactly the same. <3" xD

I .... have rambled for long enough.

I still maintain that Freddie was as close to perfection as a flawed human could ever be. I loved him then and I still love him now.

Who needs forever anyway?

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-09 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
He so would as well... the fabulous, theatrical, wonderful tart that he was :)

[identity profile] detafo.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
YES. If this was facebook, I'd like the fuck out of this comment xD

Very cool to know more about Freddie Mercury! An acquaintance of mine performs circus skills as a Freddie Mercury impersonator - he's lovely to watch. http://www.marioqueenofthecircus.com/home.htm

I adore Freddie Mercury! I am so jealous that my parents got to see Queen live

Your tattoo sounds wonderful.

I can't hear that song without crying my eyes out though...

[identity profile] detafo.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's one of my favourite queen songs... I couldn't very well get my absolute favourite song - Jealousy - tattooed anywhere... might have stirred up controversy :P

I can't help but cry my eyes out whenever i hear/watch the video clip for "These Are the days Of our lives'...... that last shot in the video with Freddy saying 'I Still Love You...' .... gah!! floods of tears... every time.

You know, I still remember the skit with Freddie and Kenny Everett. I think Kenny was being Sid Snot and Freddie came crashing in dressed up as the mother of all Fabulous Gay Police. Even though I was a kid and didn't understand what it was really about, it was still a bloody funny sketch, with Freddie doing That Pout and wiggling That Arse! Did I mention that I think he's one of the most beautiful looking men ever born?

Freddie and Kenny were great friends. I'm sure they're somewhere together drinking the bar dry and flirting with everybody they see :D

Close to perfection? He *WAS* perfection, because even perfection can be flawed, depending on a person's point of view....

he was just a musical prostitute, after all, my dear ;)

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG I know! And you could see in his eyes that he was speaking to his friends, family and fans - and that he meant every word. And to see that beautiful face so gaunt and pale... heartbreaking.

I also cry when watching Highlander - can't listen to Who Wants To Live Forever without a big box of tissues...

[identity profile] detafo.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad that video clip is in sepia/black and white....

I saw a clip of it in colour and I almost broke down and wept at how sick poor Freddy looked.

I just want to remember him in his joyful tarty birthday party outfits.... I don't want to see him look so sick and awful >.>

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:02 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right; nobody can ever hold a candle to Freddie. Not only will there never be a voice as perfect as his again, but I loved him for being a shameless, flirtatious, camp, handsome, hairy, bisexual manslut :D

[identity profile] detafo.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

I want to like the fuck out of this xD

There will be those that try...

-cough-mika-cough But pffffffffft....

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I want to remember him like that too. I never tire of watching Freddie/Queen steal everybody elses' thunder at Live Aid - and he was so *beautiful*!

I want to remember his flamboyance, his zest for life and the fact that he was a massive, wonderful, unashamed tart :)

[identity profile] detafo.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
-cough- Brian makes a creepy witch.

I'd make a better witch.

But then I mix and match costumes. I regularly dress as Zorro the Witch Pirate >.>

-cough-

Think Freddie would approve?

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Approve?

I think he'd be roaring with laughter and demanding to have a photo taken with you! :)

[identity profile] detafo.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad. I feel loved xD

Says something about my next creation.... Freddy Krueger/Nightmare Clown...... which came about because of a silly glove cat toy... >.>

Meh. Mainstream characters are too mainstream for me.

I wonder if Freddie would appreciate me at work... my usual attire of jeans and t-shirt, plus knitted Cookie Monster hat and waiter's apron.... just for shits and giggles. Lucky the boss thinks its attracts customers xD

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
They can try... but even Brian's lovely voice is nothing without The Queen Of Rock.

Freddie *was* Queen, plain and simple.

[identity profile] i-love-freddie.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yesterday I watched Brian, Roger and John singing 'Only the Good Die Young', and that brought tears to my eyes!

So sad...

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Mainstream? What is this mainstream you speak of? It sounds extremely dull, darling! :D

Besides, who doesn't love cookie Monster? :D

[identity profile] i-love-freddie.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, probably... but in hell, not in heaven. :D

[identity profile] mrs-tribble.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm Wiccan; I don't believe in hell.

But if there's a special one that Freddie created? LET ME THE FUCK IN BEFORE I KICK THE DOOR DOWN!! :D

[identity profile] detafo.livejournal.com 2013-05-10 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
John? Singing? Surely you jest!

John's too awesome to sing xD

Accuse Deaky of singing and you get a death glare akin to this one:

"Satin, Fred. WHITE FUCKING SATIN. I should kill you now."
